Which Type Of Business Networking Is Right For You
Business networking puts extra money into your business by helping you overcome one of the biggest problems facing new business owners. Business networking events can go far in making the whole process easier. There are two main types of networking opportunities available to the average entrepreneur. These are passive networking and strong networking, both have unique benefits and downsides. One of the most common examples of passive networking is a local chamber of commerce event. There can a chamber of commerce found in almost every major city in the world. The chamber of commerce gives you the opportunity to meet with many likeminded businesses in your local community. Through the many events they plan on a monthly and yearly basis, they offer you a chance to connect with a number of potential prospects and leads for your products and services. A strong networking group will meet on a regular basis for the sole purpose of exchanging businesses leads with another and finding better ways of networking to grow their business. The most successful networking groups require your weekly attendance and insist that their members provide fellow members with referrals throughout the year. They also allow only one person from each profession or industry to belong to the group. This keeps the quality of the referrals high, one such group is the Business Network International (BNI). These types of networking have advantages but are there any disadvantages? They both have their good and bad points but good strong networking groups represent a bigger commitment than passive networking groups. Being part of a strong networking group, you are committed and are always on the lookout for referrals for group members. A difference between strong networking groups is that they usually meet weekly whereas passive networking groups usually meet monthly. Another difference is passive networks can have multiple people from one profession or industry. They also have no requirements for passing on referrals to fellow members. Referrals do occur but are not facilitated by the meeting and is up to the business owner to initiate. You are allowed to belong to multiple passive networking groups. The business you gain from passive networking often depends on how much time and effort you put in. Strong networks on the other hand restrict membership to only one person per industry or profession. This greatly increases the likelihood that you will receive referrals from participating members. Meetings are structured in a way to encourage referrals and there is a formal referral exchange that happens every week. It is strongly recommended that you only belong to one strong networking group in order to keep the quality of your referrals high. With strong networking you are restricted to membership for only one person per industry or profession. This increases the likelihood of gaining referrals from participating members. The meetings are set up in a structured way to encourage referrals and there is also a more formal referral exchange that happens every week. In both and these types of networking it is important for members of these groups to see you as a professional and competent. It is often that referrals will go to the people the referrer knows and can trust.
